Research project MUBIL”: Monitoring of the conversion to organic farming
The results of the research project 10040 “Monitoring of the conversion to organic farming (MUBIL II)” under the direction of the Division of organic farming at the University of Natural Resources and Applied Life Sciences were presented on 13 June 2008 on the occasion of a field tour of the organic farm Rutzendorf belonging to the Bundesversuchswirtschaften GmbH (Federal Experimental Station).
From the organic farm of the agricultural experimental stations in Rutzendorf a comprehensive long-term monitoring on the development of organic farming has been established. The effects of the conversion to organic farming on soil, water, flora and fauna shall be identified on the basis of selected characteristics. According to the conception of the farm three types of fertilisation are compared to each other. The importance of various existing biotopes (belts of woodland, hedges, …) are to be characterised and new, supplementing biotopes shall be planned and established.1. Basic data collection and draft (planning) of a management concept including accompanying biotopes on the basis of various fertilisation concepts, maintaining crop rotation
2 Establishment of a scientific long-term monitoring:
a) at field level
b) within the framework of small plot experiments and transects
c) within the framework of accompanying biotopes (groves, margin strips)
3 identification of the starting position
4 monitoring of the effects of types of fertilisation as well as of the conversion of a farm on the environment, production and economic efficiency
5 planning of field sizes, cultivation directions as well as of accompanying biotopes.
The results of the project 1321 MUBIL 1 are available as download. The follow-up project 100040 MUBIL will be running until the end of 2008.
